Dream becoming reality? Nokian's on-demand studs

When suffering while riding with studs on pavement, I often wondered whether a day might come when one could press a button and have studs emerge from the tire or hide. My more wilder dreams pertained to an adjustable tire thread. Now this seems to be getting closer to reality as Nokian has presented a concept car tire with studs that come out or hide:

Incidentally, for cars other options existed such as a rotor with springs getting between the tire and snow and acting like a tire chain.

I imagine that in a car winter tire the weight added from the additional mechanism on each stud and the wiring/electronic components is negligible.

I don't think the same would be the case for bike tires, except maybe the fattest of fat bike tires.

Cool idea though thanks for the link
