Pants over tights?

+2 on the sporthill XC pants. Most of me runs warm, so I don't even put them on until its below 40 (summer bibs underneath). At 20, I've added knee warmers and been fine. This is up to 60-90 minutes, as my feet usually don't last much longer.

- 1 on Amfib tights, fine on their own but only in a very limited temp range. Not good for layering. I don't think I've worn mine even once in 2-3 years.
+3 on sporthill XC pants. They are the single most versatile pants ever. The fabric must be made from unicorn fur or something because they are magic. Amazing on their own, can layer under them or with a hardshell pant over them and ride to the south pole. Great for any outdoor winter activity.

Another NorCal weenie winter folks here. I can ride comfortably down to 37ºF which is fine for me. I have a pair of REI Headwinds pants that are really good in the upper 40s and with a pair of tightes or leg warmers underneath are good down to 37. My commute went from 8 to 16 miles and I fear that my feet are going to get cold with the longer ride.
Top half is lightweight long sleeve base layer, long sleeve jersey and a wind jacket. Long finger gloves.
The real secret to me keeping warm, though, was adding a fleece lined skull cap under the helmet. Mmmmm toasty!
