This is my '73 Gitane Tour d' France commuter. It came into the bike co-op after spending 20-some years in a machine shop. It looked like it got stuck in a dryer lint trap. Anyway, with all the french parts, sew-up rims, and the red paint being faded to silver on the side facing the window, no one would take it but me :-). I changed the bars and pedals, glued on new tires, switched the 5-speed cluster to an Ultra-six and swapped the big chain-ring so it is now half-step. The old rat-trap rack and saddle bag I had. The saddle is actually quite comfortable for being baked. I'm on it nearly 20 miles almost every day and quite like it!
