I did the trailside SS conversion, made it another mile before the tension of the chain overpowered the chain ring bolts – broke all 4. Had a 18 mile run out - rough day. Now I have a few chainring bolts in my back country pack.

For endurance events – 24 hour, and the CCP100 (I’ve done 3x now) I bring all the extra tools – I just leave them in my drop bags, and collect them after the race. The biggest key is preparation, make sure you maintain properly – and don’t make any changes to your equipment <2 weeks before the event.
thanks for advice!
