:) Commuting, touring, racing and WARMTH! :)

1. Yesterday I made the maiden voyage to and from work on my bicycle. The round trip is 70 kms (43 miles), and took me 1:40 there and 1:35 back. Not too bad.

I will have to make a few changes to how I handle commuting though. Wearing a backpack for that length of time gets a little tiring, so I'll put my mini-panniers on the bicycle. I think I'll also leave some stuff at work so I don't have to carry it all back and forth with me.

Oh, and the best part ... I get to keep my bicycle IN MY OFFICE, sitting right beside me!!! Everyone there seems to be really supportive of my cycling, and my office is more than big enough to store a bicycle, so ... there he sat all day.

2. I have also received notice that I've been accepted for a 3 day, 300K tour, on the May long weekend, in the Rocky Mountains - the "Golden Triangle" tour - put on by a local cycletouring club. There will be about 300ish people on the tour, and it is fully supported - something different for me! I'm actually planning to pack a luxury or two, like maybe a blanket and fleece top, because the SAG wagon will carry it!!

It looks like something of a challenging tour - they've provided an elevation chart in the informational package, and there will certainly be some climbing. Good training.

3. The other day I also found out that the local racing club (the one-and-only club in my city) is having an open house on Saturday ... so, I'm planning to drop by and check them out. Maybe I'll be able to ride with them sometimes so I can work on my speed. Who knows, maybe I'll even be able to race a couple times. I'd LOVE to do some TTs this year if possible.

4. And today we hit double digits with sunshine. It was a balmy 14C/57F out there!!! Does that ever make a difference. I felt like I had so much more energy while riding today.

The snow is almost gone, and the weekend is supposed to be nice too ... so maybe, just maybe, spring might be just around the corner!!
