Anyone riding spaced down 29er wheels?

I picked up a cyclocross frame with 130 mm rear spacing that has the ability to run rim or disc brakes with the idea that I can use a disc wheelset/disc brakes for commuting/knocking around and have the ability to go to rim brakes if I decide to try cyclocross.

There are disc cyclocross wheels out there that offer both options for braking. Here are 2 examples that I'm considering:

Vuelta XRP Pro - $237 delivered
Vuelta XRP Pro SuperLite - $239 delivered

A friend who is in cycloscross also mentioned (and recommended) that a 29er wheelset may work but the hub would need to be spaced down from 135 to 130. I'm just curious if anyone has done this or is this inviting more time, trouble and work than it's worth? I'm just trying to consider all of my options before I place orders.

This bike will spend 99% of it's time on decent pavement/bike paths as a commuter but could see cyclocross action. I already have the tires I want to use (28C) which will dictate the width of the rim.

Thank you for any comments/suggestions!
