Registering for my first Sprint Tri!

So, I'm taking the plunge. When I get paid later this week, I am going to register for my first sprint tri. I had originally wanted to do the Tucson Triathlon in March, but I was too slow, and registrations are now closed. Instead, it looks like my race is going to be the Tucson Firecracker Tri on July 4th.

I had planned on following the Tri-Newbies 11 week beginner plan in the lead up to the March race, but now I have a few extra months. Do you folks have any advice with regard to training plans? Should I just follow the original plan I had and continue to amp up training at the end? Or should I basically just double the original length of the plan and do each week twice? Are there any strength training plans you all think I should add?

Thanks, in advance, for any and all advice!
