Here is another mountain bike conversion that I just finished. I started with a very cheap Bridgestone CB1 that I got for 100 bucks with rack. It was not running....mostly due to the rot on the tires, the derailleur cables being toast, and the brakes being in bad shape. I see those deals often on craigslist. I bought a set of used Ritchey wheels with tires for 35, used Deda drop bars for 10, Tektro aero levers new for 26, a new H2O quill stem for 20 at LBS, tape for 12 at LBS, new cables 5 and some sweet NOS Suntour barcons for 45 off eBay. I am into this bike for $ 253 plus my labor, which was easy . I feel that this bike equipped wiht a back-up set of folded knobbies could go anywhere. The suntour barcons with the suntour derailleurs are likley to last forever and be really smooth. Just finished it today!.
