I once sold a vintage miyata mixte with a bent seat stay for $200 and sold a Roadmaster MT Fury for $100. If I enjoy the bike I'll probably keep it and throw a modern Ultegra/105 groupo on it.
To each his own. I picked up a mixte last year that ended up with a bent stay (bad inspection on my part). I donated it. I won't knowingly sell a damaged bike. $500 for a $300 bike, I couldn't do that either.
I count on repeat sales and referrals. I have even taken bikes back and refunded the money when the buyer changed their mind. Its just what has worked for me.
