downhill parts for XC

i'm not experience in mtb. but i'm getting into xc and singletrack. i'm building up a ride or two bit by bit. i have an offer that is a steal on a shimano saint rear der. $20. i think it's usually 80 or so. i know saint is made for downhill, but is there any reason to not use it for xc? i mean, downhill stuff is just beafy tough, right? so a little extra strength can't hurt. and how would this rule apply with other components as well?
