Hmm I have no idea why you'd have to take apart the axle to install a freewheel cog (unless he had to remove the old cog that way.) I put mine on with a chainwhip. But yeah, they don't need to break in... it should be good to go as soon as it's on the hub. Is the noise coming from the rear axle?
