I prefer SPDs and Looks over eggbeaters, but I don't understand the claims that eggs aren't good for fixed gear riding. I rode eggs of years fixed, SS, geared, and while I ultimately concluded that I really didn't care for them, I thought they were equally appropriate for fixed or freewheel.
