I was in the same situation as you. I chose the Kona Dew plus over the Trek because the Kona has a stronger Aluminum alloy and the components were a notch higher for a lower price. Plus disk brakes were on the Kona where they were lacking on the Trek. All in all, I felt the Kona had more to offer for the same, if not lower price.

Personally, I also felt more as one when I rode the bike. As if the bike were an extension of me, rather than a machine I was operating.
