29 speed to fixie....

So went out for a my second real trail ride of this season, great weather, was planning on getting some good miles in. Ride was going pretty well minus a slightly out of tune rear der, killing climbs that usually kill me, clearing all the sketchy points that I dab, clearing all but one monster log crossing.....

And then my free hub froze up. And suddenly I'm riding a fix gear bike on the techest trail in my ride.

So I decide to pack it in, trying to remember to keep spinning to try and not ruin any more parts. Was going well until I fit the bottom of the downhill at the end of my ride. There the trail head flattens, there is a small water crossing, and then out to the road. Well at the water crossing all hell breaks loose as I have to stop pedaling to clear some roots. And suddenly my new PG-990 cassette has a bent 34 tooth and 28 tooth.

Now, aside of *****ty luck, could this freeze up have anything to do with a under/over torqued cassette? Not that it matters now, but I pulled it after my ride last week to clean, and put it back on with the same force needed to get it off. I know, I should invest in a torque wrench....

Such a lame end to what was a great ride.
