How to remove cartridge bearings from a headset?

I just installed a FSA Orbit Extreme Pro headset on a new frame. However, the bottom cup didn’t go all the way and now I would need to remove the lower cartridge bearing. It seem to have stuck.

I can easily remove the upper one just with using my fingers. I tried pulling out the lower cartridge bearing with a tier lever (big mistake). The bearing split in half, half of it is still in the bearing cub.

So my question is: would be the correct way of removing cartridge bearing form a FSA headset?
