Shimano 6 speed SIS shifter with Shimano 7 speed freewheel?
It's time to put a new freewheel onto my '96 Diamondback MTB which currently has a 6 speed freewheel & SIS derailler & indexed shifter. I like the Shimano 7 speed freewheel (Megarange/Alpine 14-34) which I put on my Raleigh friction shifting road bike. My question is: Is a 6-speed Shimano index shifter & derailler compatible with a Shimano 7 speed hyperglide freewheel?
I have searched for the answer everywhere but didn't find this specific combo... Thanks, all!
