It should (*) not be too difficult to convince your spouse you have to have this bike.
Whether you can afford it is another question:
1) If you can manage it now, buy it and then sell something to recover the cost.
2) If you cannot manage it now (rent or credit card bills due imminently or whatever) then sell something first -and then buy it.
IMO, Passing up a gift horse like that would be foolish.
