You completely misunderstand American values. The FDA is responsible for letting ALL the drug companies poison American citizens. There was a 25% population increase for children with autism because the vaccines had mercury in them, and the FDA was cool with it. In fact, when people complained, they just let that company export the vaccines to Japan, and Japan's rates of kids with Autism went up within a few years.
As Americans have embraced capitalism, its federal law for corporations to maximize profits. Its a system that the FDA lives under. Lance Armstrong is not a corporation, and therefore the FDA does not turn a blind eye.
