Mulleady - based on this discussion here, I think I know: I'm losing time on the hills by spinning and not attacking the hill.

I do notice this however, there is more brain time devoted to thinking about shifting, timing shifts, and shifting down when approaching a stop light than riding singlespeed. It does take away from the purity of the experience. I'll leave it on for a while and see what happens.
