NO they are not all the same size. front skewers are for the most part the same but the rear... I suspect the OP has and older 126mm hub so a modern skewer for a 130 or 135 hub may very well be too long. but if there is enough thread it can be used

I have a set of locking skewers I bought off epay and the rear is too short for a '89 XT rear hub.

to: OP go to a different bike shop and ask if they have a box of older skewers you can look through. look for a rear Malliard, Ofmega, Suze something like that should fit OK
