Robbie, FWIW, I don't think of the Series Paramounts as at all inferior. The Series 5 and Series 7 Paramounts were both made by National/Panasonic and the workmanship is world class by any standard. The labor costs were a little lower in Japan than in Wisconsin at the time, and the components on the Series bikes were mid-level instead of top tier as typically spec'd by customers of the Waterford bikes (Waterford Paramounts were available only as framesets from Schwinn and were built up by the dealers with customer specified components, whereas the Series bikes came complete).
