Plastic reflectors are a waste of weight, time, energy, and space, plus they end up as trail litter.
What you should do in order to appease the 'rentals is get some Reflective Tape
and apply like so to the frame:
and like so to the rims:
This way there's nothing to break off and you have reflectors. Everyone is happy. If they give you any guff about it and you can hit them with "The Law actually requires lights" arguement (in almost all cases it actually does).
Miscalculation or no they are the 'rentals and you live under their roof so you need to meet them halfway
