In your place, I would look at respacing the dropouts
to fit the hub versus your proposed axle extension.
Even if you could weld it on there straight (problematic
at best) on an axle it would be forever after suspect
in terms of safety. I don't know the hub, so I don't
know whether a longer axle might be swappable--
but I suspect not.

If I am misreading your post and it is the actual
physical dimensional width of each individual dropout
that is the problem, I got nothin' for you.
