You should know I already have 150 miles testing out a zip tie on my rear wheel. The only issue was a little sidewall chaffing, but a bit of duct tape seems to have resolved that.
The other option I had initially passed over was braided rope, but I've been reading about some old crampon techniques, and if the rope is porus enough it becomes permiated with snow and ice and actually ends up giving very good traction.
