A couple of others have already mentioned the wheel size. Some mountain bikes come with 29" wheels (the so-called 29ers) so forks do exist to cater for the larger wheels. You might find they are more expensive, I've never looked into the specifics so can't tell you prices but they obviously do exist. If you've got 26" wheels you won't need anything special.

Is your existing fork adjustable? If so, does it just need to be a little softer? You might be able to adjust it and not need to buy anything new at all. If you're riding gravel roads I'd imagine you're not having problems with using up all the travel on your fork and needing something with more, right?
