Those Avocet inverted tread tires were some of the best all purpose tires I'd ever come across and you are damned lucky to get some NOS. They, as I'm sure you know, made in both 700s (28-38?) and 26". I sure wish someone could make a good copy of those.
My friend has some NOS 26 inch Avocets on his winter bike... I had a few sets kicking around and he loves them.
Pic with the Avocet Cross installed... there was nothing wrong with the CX Compes I was running (they are awesome) and I just wanted to try a wider front tyre and the bike was actually designed to handle some pretty wide rubber.
