So here is what I can gather.

The frame is definitely older than 1990, which is what I expected but did not know enough to pin down (i.e. brake bridge).

The model is not the Corsa 01 I had expected, I had been confused by the 7c on the serial which I interpreted as 57cm Corsa, and that the frame had a campy headset and BB, followed by visits to catalogues and bikepedia. But if the frame is indeed older than 1990 then it could not be a Corsa.
I think that I will contact the Merckx factory, if anyone has a contact there I would be interested in knowing and I would also be interested in success stories when trying this (Didn't KonAaron try this?).

Another conclusion is to ride the heck out of it.. My thoughts exactly!
