the 357s are the correct batts. the cap tool should have come with your powertap purchase. it is possible to get it off without the peoper tool but the parallel wrench flats are shalow- you do not want to screw those up,

if the power readings are inconsistent first zero, replace batts and try again. it is also possible that it is a warranty which case it'll go back to cycleops for recalibration...
