Is this bike suitable for heavy off-road use?

This is my touring/commuting/utility/everything bike. Several of my friends are seriously into mountain biking and I really want to go, but I do not want to sink money into any sort of specialized bike unless I absolutely have no other choice. Other than the longer wheelbase, what negatives are there to going mountain biking on this? I realize it will be a rough ride because it doesn’t have all the fancy suspension, but I’m not really concerned with that. It’s built like a tank and I am currently huge 700x46 tires. What are your thoughts on taking this on the trails?
