bb, cranks, ss questions

i just purchased a 2009 felt gridloc frame. this will be my first bike build from the ground up. i have been riding since i was 5 yrs old and im no dummy when it comes to servicing and repairing or upgrading my bikes. but i have never build one from the frame up.

the only thing that i am having a hard time with is the bottom bracket. here come the questions

i can assume that the threading will be ISO/British (sheldon brown says this is the most common)

do i have to use a square taper spindle? (according to the internet this is being phased out in favor of things like ISIS)

how do i figure out the proper spindle width?

will spindle width have anything to do with the chain line?

whats with the outboard BB? (i dont understand a lot about BB)

can i use any cranks or do they have to be more SS specific?

am i making this more complicated than it is? (i do that a lot)

additional info. i ride in the city, i dont do tricks, i dont do fixie (yet), and this will not be my everyday bike (i have a SS walmart bike for that). i would like to spend some money and buy nicer components for this bike, not to say price is not an issue but time is not as i already have a few other bikes i can ride. i want to make this bike truly "mine".

thanks for any help or links to info.
