Those are an interesting little beast...I have one. IIRC Raleigh built them in response to the Moulton. They also came in fixed frame models which are apparently more common in the UK than the US.

You're right about it being made in response to Moulton, but they were chronically heavy & slow, even without the folding hinge, I used to borrow my aunt's with fat white tyres, it was like riding a hippo! LOL!
The fold on the compact was hardly likely to assist in shoe-horning it into your average English car. But having said that, as time goes by their value is rising.
