Welcome to the club! Unfortunately, it's not very elite.
A few years ago my daughter jokingly challenged me to grow my hair out for Locks of Love. I called her bluff and am sporting a ponytail. There's been more than one car full of testosterone pull up alongside me with I'm sure some less than pleasant comments, only for the occupants to catch sight of my beard. Smiles/smirks fade, jaws drop, tires squeal, and they get their embarrassed selves down the road quickly.
