I agree on going to your local bike shop and having them help you select one. They can even measure your sit bones for comfort.

I've ridden on an anatomically friendly seat for years, and swear by them. I don't have much cushion, gel or otherwise, as after a few miles they actually cause saddle sores, etc. I also have identical saddles (or near identical) on all my bikes. Found one that works well and am sticking with it.

Since the saddle is your major contact with the bike, and where most of the pain comes from cycling, it is not the place to save pennies. I can sit on mine for hours comfortably.
