PA Route 309: Safe for cycling?

I'm planning on using PA route 309 from Tamaqua, PA to Hazleton, PA for a tour this weekend. I'm a little worried about the safety of this 10ish mile stretch, though. Based on google street view imagery there's 3-4 lanes with an occasionally limited shoulder.

Would this be a sane choice for a route? I can't find any alternative routings that wouldn't add a lot of mileage to the trip.

What's your opinion, based on the google street view imagery? Or, if you've had any personal experience with this highway, how was it?
