I ride SPD SL on one road bike, old school 1st generation Look on my old road bike and different types of SPDs on mountain bike, hybrid and tourer. I think they're all pretty similar, SPDs seem a little easier to get in and out of (i don't mean the tension, which is adjustable, i mean the ease of locating) but it's all basically the same. Once you can use one type you can use them all. I think my favourite is the SPD SL.
