Yes, it is absolutely true. +1 on everything jimc101 said. Those bikes are junk, designed to look good enough on the showroom floor to be sold. That's about it.

As far as rear suspension is concerned, there are many different designs still out there. Some have pedal bob, others claim not to. I've never ridden a full suspension bike (besides the junk from x-mart) so I can't comment on the good designs.

Having done mountain biking on rigid forks, cheap suspension forks, and GOOD suspension forks, I've decided that front suspension isn't worth having unless it's a good quality fork that doesn't weigh 5 pounds. A rigid fork is so much better than a cheap heavy suspension fork.
