If you are going to be riding more than 15 miles I think I would go with a road bike. If not maybe a cross bike, they have larger tires than a road bike. You might even look at the urban bikes out there. Cannondale Quick CX4 like I got or Giant Seek 2 or maybe even the Trek PDX, but this is the last year they make it. You can pick one of these up for around 600 bucks.
