"BROKEN" ribs are a lot more serious than what is often referred to as cracked ribs

While those things are "loose" and floating, you risk puncturing your lung. I would follow orders, though I would expect you won't feel all that great breathing anyway.
I'm sitting it out too after stupidity on my part two weeks ago.
