Test ride various bikes in different styles and pick the one which you have the most fun on. That's the most important thing for now. For what you are looking to do, basically any bike will do, though some will be more fun than others for that task (and what's more fun is a very personal thing). If your style of cycling eventually changes and you need a different bike, either sell the old one and buy a new one or keep both. There is no perfect bike out there as one bike can never do everything for everyone. I'd wager that most avid cyclists own more than one bike as they enjoy multiple styles of cycling.
