There's a guy that rides at the same bike path I ride at that has a new Lotus and rides ad older steel frame road bike he hauls on a custom made bike rack. There are guys at the same park driving older, economy cars riding 4 and 5K bikes. I think it depends on your priorities and what makes you feel better. Personally, I have a $1,200 bike and a 6 year old truck. But what do I know, I spent around $8,000 customizing my 02 PT Cruiser.
