I learned this when I took a class, but it may not be true everywhere. Supposedly most shop mechanics are required to have there own personal tools, and maybe the LBS will provide a couple of the big ones (presses and facers, maybe stands). If that IS the case, I wouldn't be comfortable with someone using my tools unless I knew them well.
