I have degenerative disk disease with the main issue being bouts of sciatica when I push too big a gear. It also occurs sometimes for no apparent reason. My other limit is that I take a beta blocker which limits my maximum heart rate. I'm not sure but I think this limits my work capacity on the bicycle.
