I used Phil Wood 48 spoke, and built them up 5 cross, rear.
was fine for a decade of loaded touring. 40 spoke front 4 cross..
sold them still true and serviceable. when I built another set..
[next set, not mentioned since hub/rim not made any more]
you can modify Shimano Tandem hubs to get a 40 or 48 spoke hub ,
that is Shimano quality.
It's a case of changing the axle and the left side spacers, to go from 145 to 135.
