DI2 heatshrink alternatives?

disassembled a dura ace di2 bike today and really had a great time with the heatshrink for the internal connector/wires. frame is a trek madone 6.9 i beleive. the stock shimano shrink tube has glue on the inside to keep the connection waterproof. its a bear to remove while trying not to cut or nick the wires. any alternatives to heatshrink with the glue liner? the heatshrink also keeps the connectors from pulling apart. i was thinking dielectric grease and regular shrink tube, not sure. just trying to make it easier for the next guy or gal the comes along.
