Do you have a steel freehub? Your new 9/10 speed cassette isn't going to fit the 8 speed splines. With an 8 speed cassette you'll need a 29x1mm lock ring part CS-101 (discontinued) for 11T starting cogs and CS-001 otherwise.

With an aluminum freehub you need a 27x1mm lock ring part CS-501 for 11T starting cogs and CS-401 otherwise.
