White Sands Full Moon night ride

I rode the full moon night ride at White Sands National Monument in southern New Mexico on Friday night.

The National Park services opens the park twice a year during a full moon. You ride around the park in the dark only lit up by the moon and bicycle lights. The park is made up of sugar-white sand dunes that reflect moonlight.

There were about 200 riders including kids. Most of the road is packed with sand so a mountain bike works best. However my racing bike worked fine at low speed. The ride is about 15 miles round trip and takes 2 1/2 or 3 hours.

The next scheduled ride is next April. See the White Sands National Monument website for details on this unique bicycling experience. http://www.nps.gov/whsa/planyourvisit/bicycling.htm
