Rigid MTB vs. Touring Bike

So I've done two races so far (2 of 5 and 3 of 5) on my hardtail MTB. However, I want something a bit better suited for cylocross. I've got an older specialized Rockhopper (Rigid Aluminum w/ canti's). I have friction bar ends and drop bars that I could put on, as well as aero levers. I could get something like the Schwalbe 26" CX tires. My other option is to use my Bianchi Randonneur Touring bike from the early 80's. This is a steel frame with a bit of clearance and canti's. Currently I have fenders on it and it weighs around 22-23 lbs. I could keep my STI's or put bar ends. I've read that a touring bike's geometry will not be good for CX, but would it be a better option than a "monster-cross" bike?

Any suggestions?
