Wow, that's a steal at both places. I have the 2011 and it looks like the only change for 2012 is the color. I got a similar kind of deal a couple of years ago on my Marin cross bike: The graphics on the crankset had changed between model years, so I got $700 off on the previous year's model, though identical in every way other than cosmetic.
The Kona has been amazing and 100% trouble free. I test road the Scott and Giant offerings at the same level, and the Kona was definitely faster, lighter, and in my opinion, a little better designed (an excellent silent dropout system and the CF fork).
