A Pacific isn't worth upgrading. You'll actually save money if you wait and get a bike from a bike shop with a decent set of parts. If you're on a budget, buy the most bike you can reasonably afford and upgrade only when necessary.

If you don't believe me, do the math: go to Dan's and build a bike from scratch. Even with cheesy parts it's still a LOT more expensive than buying a complete bike with the same stuff.
