Ok, I haven't ridden clipless pedals before, but I'm thinking of getting some Crank brothers pedals. Probably the eggbeater or candy SLs. What I'm wondering about is the platfom on the candys? Is it actually useful?

It seems that it should be pretty useless when you're actually clipped in, and only helpful if your foot is resting on the pedal but not clipped in. How often does that really happen? Don't you try to be clipped in pretty much all the time?

If you're not clipped in, wouldn't it be a pain to balance on the clip/spring part of the pedal with shoes with cleats on them? Seems like you could slip off the platform pretty easy that way.
